You can grab the packages from here:

This is the minimum package set.
eartwork
edb
eet
embryo
evas
ecore
efreet
edje
e_dbus
enlightenment
emodules

You also need to install the package "gnome-menus" which is available
via netpkg. I'm going to make this whole repo netpkg'able or another
repo before it goes to testing.

Ok, grabbed them and installed, including gnome-menus...
More packages will be on their way as optional additions. There are
some known problems but you can get it to work 99%.

Known problems:
1. GDM in current/snapshot won't start E17.
Solution: If you are comfortable digging deep into your system you can
replace the file /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession with the file from an older
package, for example the package
http://download.zenwalk.org/i486/zenwalk-4.6.1/packages/zenwalk/xap/gdm-2.18.1-i486-46.2.tgz
to revert back to the original GDM file just run "netpkg gdm" followed
by "netpkg dotnew".

2. The volume applet causes E17 to crash when it is toggled.
Solution: This is out of my hands as I'm waiting on the E17 devs for a fix.

3. The default theme is ugly.
Solution: Install one of the extra "ethemes" and change it. I will
choose a better default theme, configurations and setup before the
packages go into testing in the community testing area. For examples
of the themes you can see the screenshots I posted here:
http://download.zenwalk.org/people/michael/artwork/e17-screenshots/

All I'm waiting for is the GDM file and the volume applet to get
fixed. Then it's off to full testing.

:)

I had a slightly later version of GDM in my local cache, so I installed /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession from it, but got the "your session lasted less than" error. Downloaded the one you pointed to and tried it, but I'm getting the same problem, so it looks as though I've forgotten something, or something is different on my system.

I installed to this machine, which is a 4.6.1 install, upgraded to snapshot, but without the latest updates.

I did notice that there is a /etc/X11/dm/xfce.desktop file, but I don't have one for E17. Would this make a difference?

For the moment, I've reverted /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession to the current level, and I'm back in Xfce. I found that Xfce wouldn't start with the older Xsession file either, which seemed a bit strange...

I guess I could try reverting the whole of GDM to the earlier level to see if that helps?

regards, paul.
